Infantile Spasms Questionnaire

Take this 9-question quiz to find out if your baby might have IS. After you answer each question, additional information will appear before you answer the next question. At the end of the Questionnaire, you can print the results and take them to your doctor.

  1. 1.
Has your baby failed to achieve developmental milestones when you expected them to or lost progress that they had previously made?
  2. 2.
Does your baby have muscle spasms involving the neck, upper body, legs, and arms?
  3. 3.
Does your baby have abnormal eye movements during the spasms?
  4. 4.
If your baby initially has a spasm, does it last less than 2 seconds?
  5. 5.
If your baby has muscle twitches or jerky movements, does your baby remain rigid or stiff for about 2 to 10 seconds afterward?
  6. 6.
If your baby has spasms, do they occur when the baby wakes up or falls asleep?
  7. 7.
Do the spasms happen when your baby hears loud noises?
  8. 8.
Does your baby have another type of seizure disorder?
  9. 9.
Does your baby have a history of tuberous sclerosis, brain tumor, or other brain abnormality?

The yes responses may be more often associated with IS than the no responses.
You may want to print this page and use it to start a conversation with your doctor. This questionnaire does not take the place of a doctor's diagnosis. You are strongly urged to seek the advice of a doctor if you have any questions about IS or your baby’s condition.
